Manchester United ready to meet Zirkzee release clause

According to Sky Sports, Manchester United are expected to trigger the €40m release clause in the contract of Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee. Even so, however, there will still be a long way to go before the transfer is completed and there’s no guarantee that it will be done at this point. United would still need to persuade Zirkzee himself to join.

What’s more, the 20-time English champions are likely to face formidable competition for the services of the 23-year-old, namely from Arsenal and AC Milan, who are believed to be interested as well. United apparently have other targets on their list, should their pursuit of Zirkzee fail.

Zirkzee, who has two years left on his contract, scored 12 goals and contributed seven assists in 37 matches across all competitions for Bologna in 2023/24. He is currently on international duty with Netherlands at the Euros, and he’ll be hoping to get his first senior cap when his nation faces Austria in the final round of the group stage on Tuesday.
