Premier League giants Manchester United are hot on the trail of Atletico Madrid stopper Jose Maria Gimenez, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho was on the lookout for defensive reinforcements even before Eric Bailly suffered a knee injury, and he is now almost certain to sign at least one centre-back in the January window.
The Daily Mirror has learned that Atletico Madrid starlet Jose Maria Gimenez has emerged as his top target, with the Portuguese manager reportedly considering a £50 million bid for the Uruguayan.
Mourinho is well aware of the youngster’s qualities from his time in La Liga and he clearly wants to bring him to Old Trafford at the earliest opportunity.
Jose Maria Gimenez has a £56 million release clause and he has been on the radar of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
The Uruguay international has seen his first team chances severely limited with the arrival of Stefan Savic and chances are he will be looking for a way out of Vicente Calderon.
