Manchester United set for Miranda negotiations

La Liga champions Atletico Madrid have given Manchester United the green light to sign defender Miranda in the summer, according to the Express.

Louis van Gaal is on the lookout for a new centre-back after failing to land anyone in that position of any repute in the last two transfer windows.

Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels and Ron Vlaar of Aston Villa have also been linked with a move to Old Trafford, though a deal for Brazilian international Miranda looks more likely with Atleti now deeming the 30 year old surplus to requirements.

During his time in the Spanish capital, the former Sao Paolo man has won the league, Spanish cup and Europa League while he also played in last season’s Champions League final defeat to city rivals Real last May.

Internationally, he has been capped thirteen times by Brazil, but was not selected for their squad for last summer’s World Cup finals in his home country.
