Premier League champions Manchester United drew 4-4 with Everton at Old Trafford in an extraordinary game.
The result has blown the title race wide open and allowed Manchester City the chance to capitalise on the slip-up.
Incredible
The clash was a treat for the neutrals as both sides went for victory.
It was yet another brilliant game in a season of brilliant Premier League encounters. Just when we thought that Manchester United had the game tied up at 3-1 they let the visitors back into the game.
Everton were superb and even came back from 4-2 to rescue a point at a ground that they find points hard to come by. You could say that United allowed Everton to get back into the game but you have to give the Toffee’s credit for taking the chances.
Open
The draw was a really big blow to Manchester United’s hopes of winning the league title yet again. United were expected to just show up and beat David Moyes side but the visitors obviously didn’t read the script.
The draw gave the initiative to United’s arch-rivals Manchester City. United are now just six points clear of their city rivals but the Citizens have a game in-hand which they will play shortly at Premier League strugglers Wolves.
Manchester City will have the bit between their teeth and will now think that they have the upper hand in the race for the Premier League title.
Chance
Manchester City can prove their title credentials with a victory at strugglers Wolves. A victory is vital for Roberto Mancini’s side. It looked like the title race was over a few weeks ago but City have came back into the race.
Playing against a side who look set for the Championship City will never have a better chance of catching up to Manchester United.
Decider
Manchester City vs. Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium on 30th April looks like it could be the title decider. The game was always earmarked as the title decider but in recent weeks it looked like game wouldn’t have much meaning.
Depending on City’s result later today it could be the game that helps win Manchester City the Premier League title. Very rarely have Manchester derbies had such a big significance.
Twists
Both Manchester clubs still have tough games to go this season after that vital clash. Manchester City have to face Champions League chasing Newcastle United at St James Park. This could be a major banana skin for Mancini’s team.
While Sir Alex Ferguson’s side also have to travel to the North East to face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. United look to have the easier task in the North East but as we have seen all season anything can happen.
Drama
This weekends results could have a major bearing on where the Premier League title ends up at the end of the season. There is bound to be more twists and turns in the Premier League this season. At the moment though it’s definitely advantage City in the race for the big prize.
