Premier League giants Arsenal have been courting AS Monaco winger Thomas Lemar for some time now, but they may well have left it too late. The news this week suggests that their rivals Manchester United have now registered an interest in acquiring the French international, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The Monaco star has been turning the heads of Europe’s top clubs since his impressive contribution to Monaco’s title-winning 2016/17 Ligue 1 campaign. The versatile winger bagged nine goals and 10 assists during that season, and has so far added a further two goals and four assists to their title-defence this time around.
United meanwhile are mainly in the market for a winger due to Jose Mourinho’s sudden distrust and dislike of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who hit a run of bad form earlier this season.
The Armenian has been benched ever since, and it seems increasingly likely that he will be sold. Lemar could provide the perfect replacement, assuming he can replicate his good form in the Premier League.
