According to Diario Gol, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez would be prepared to accept an offer of €60 million for France international Raphael Varane, and Manchester United are willing to pay that amount as Jose Mourinho seeks to bolster his options in defence.
The 24-year-old centre-back made 25 appearances in all competitions so far this season, and he has been an important cog in Zinedine Zidane’s back line. However, it seems the club are willing to dispense with his services if a bid matching their valuation materializes.
There is little doubt his presence would make a difference for Mourinho’s side. About to enter his prime, Varane is extremely quick, strong and good in the air, and boasts considerable experience at top level despite his relatively young age. Goalkeeper David De Gea, who has often been linked with a move the other way, has had to bail his defenders out countless times in recent seasons, and should he decide to stay at Old Trafford beyond this summer, the Spaniard would certainly welcome such a quality addition to the team’s defence.
