Manchester United to offer Rooney makeweight in Lukaku deal

Manchester United are considering using Wayne Rooney as bait in an attempt to sign Romelu Lukaku from Everton, according to the Mail Online.

The Merseyside club are holding out for £100m for the Premier League’s top scorer though United believe that offering a Rooney return is something the Toffees would be interested in.

The England skipper is valued at around £17m and would demand a huge pay off if he were to leave Old Trafford with two years remaining on his current £250k per week deal.

Since swapping Goodison Park for Old Trafford, the thirty-one year old has racked up five hundred and fifty-five appearances in all competitions, scoring a club record two hundred and fifty-two goals.

He has also won a whole host of major honours including five Premier League titles, three League Cups and the FA Cup while he could add a Europa League medal to his haul a week on Wednesday.
