Manchester United turned down by de Ligt

According to a recent report from Marca, Matthijs de Ligt has officially turned down the chance to sign for Manchester United. The 19 year old has had a phenomenal breakout season with Dutch giants Ajax, to the point where he has helped them to reach the semi finals of the Champions League. He is set to play a key role in the club’s second leg later tonight, when they face off against Tottenham.

Barcelona are still said to be the frontrunners with Juventus not being too far behind, although Barca have put forward a £70 million bid for him. Now that their Champions League campaign is over, it certainly seems like the Spaniards are going to be focusing most of their attention on ensuring that de Ligt joins de Jong in joining the club this summer. If he doesn’t, then perhaps he’ll consider the possibility of staying at Ajax ahead of moving to the Premier League.
