Manchester United have set their sights on signing Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig in the summer, according to Miguel Delaney of the Independent.
Apparently, United were keen on Dayot Upamecano, but they’ve now accepted that the sought-after Fenchman is likely to join Bayern Munich, and that’s the reason they’ve decided to target Upamecano’s partner in the hear of the Leipzig defence instead.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is very careful about his team being named among the Premier League title contenders this season, but he obviously sees reinforcing the back line as the next step to take towards it.
Meanwhile, Konate has had some injury issues this season. First a hip flexor problem kept him out for the opening three matches of the Bundesliga campaign, and he has just recovered after missing out on seven league matches due to an ankle injury, making the bench against Schalke 04 on Saturday. The 21-year-old is bound to Leipzig until the summer of 2023, with Liverpool and Chelsea also believed to be contemplating a move for his services.
