According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is willing to spend big money (potentially €57 million) in order to bring Jerome Boateng to Old Trafford. The Portuguese boss’ main priority will likely be fixing the defensive issues that United have, and while they’ve done that to a certain extent over the last few years, they haven’t really had a strong centre-back partnership since the days of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
Boateng, 29, is a defender who feels like he’s been around forever, having played for Hertha BSC, Hamburg, Manchester City and Bayern Munich over the course of his 12-year professional career. The German brings a certain level of composure to the majority of teams he plays in, and moving forward, he could well be The Red Devils’ biggest transfer target throughout the remainder of the summer window.
Boateng is currently in Russia for the FIFA World Cup with the German national team.
