Competition: Champions League
Market: Man Utd to qualify for Champions League quarter-finals
Odds: 23/11 @ Betfair
After a humiliating, but by no means undeserved, 2-0 defeat against Olympiakos in the Champions League, many now feel Manchester United are to be knocked out of their only remaining remotely winnable tournament when the Greeks come to Old Trafford in a couple of weeks.
United will have to win by two-clear goals at home – three clear goals if Olympiakos manage an away goal. Nevertheless, Betfair are giving odds of 23/11 for the Premier League holders to qualify for the last-8. Man Utd have been impressive at home in the Champions League this season – winning all three games at Old Trafford – so they will certainly fancy their chances of victory.
But forgetting Manchester United’s task of having to score at least twice, Olympiakos will still carry a threat on their travels. The side haven’t lost in the league all season, and were in great display against David Moyes’ men – more than warranting their 2-0 aggregate lead.
Prior to the defeat, United’s European run had been somewhat formidable, but now it appears it could well be over. Can Man Utd overturn a two-goal deficit when the Greek side comes to town in March? Or the European dream over once again prematurely?
