Manchester City owners have disclosed that Roberto Mancini’s job is safe and that he will only be sacked if City fail to clinch the Champions League berth.
The club meeting took place in Abu Dhabi a week ago after the fans voiced their discontent following the goalless draw against Birmingham, but Mancini’s position was not even discussed.
Chief executive Garry Cook, director of football Brian Marwood, finance director Graham Wallace and club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak attended the meeting and they agreed on the next steps in City’s push for the Champions League places.
The Italian has been given a vote of confidence, while it was also revealed he will have around £80 million to spend in January on new players.
Nonetheless, before Mancini buys new players, he will first have to get rid of at least three stars from a list that includes Emmanuel Adebayor, Joleon Lescott, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Wayne Bridge, Shay Given, Roque Santa Cruz and Jo.
