Roberto Mancini says Manchester City must emulate neighbours Manchester United in order to win the Premier League.
United currently sit on top of the table, with City five points behind having played a game more ahead of their derby match at Old Trafford on Saturday.
“We are a good team and we have improved a lot in the last six months. But maybe United have more of a winning mentality than us because when you are a team who has been winning things for 20 years you are strong mentally,” Mancini said.
“To beat them could be an important step in winning the league but it is only where you are at the end of the season that matters. At the moment United are on top but it is difficult to say who will win the title this year.’
“It is a derby but it is not a more important game. United are top of the table and we are third so it is a big game anyway.”
“But every game is difficult – nobody thought United would lose against Wolves last week. We are starting Europa League and Champions League and everything can change.”
“I hope that Carlos Tevez can play like he did last weekend [when he scored a hat-trick] and keep his mind on the game. I think United have fantastic players in all positions so when they are missing a good player like Rio Ferdinand, they have another good one who can come in.”
Mario Balotelli (knee) and Nigel de Jong (ankle) are both doubtful while Adam Johnson (ankle) and Micah Richards (concussion) are both definitely out.
