Roberto Mancini says he has more than one point to prove ahead of Manchester City’s Champions League home clash with Borussia Dortmund.
The City manager wants to atone for failing to make it past the group stage last season and has also set his sights on winning the competition.
“I hope that I can improve my record in the Champions League,” he said.
“I think that we’ve arrived at the time where we can win the Champions League. But in this moment we are in a difficult group.
“We want to go into the second stage, we are sure of this, but we know it will be difficult.”
City, who won the Premier League under Mancini last season, are grouped with Real Madrid, Ajax and Dortmund.
They led Madrid 2-1 with less than five minutes to go in their opening group game, but came away without a point.
“We need to not concede easy goals to the opponent like we conceded against Real Madrid,” Mancini said.
“If we want to go through, we need to improve very quickly.”
Wednesday’s opponents Dortmund, who beat Ajax at home in their opening match, are also hopeful of advancing to the knockout phase after missing a berth last season.
“Dortmund are a fantastic team. Competitive, they work hard together, they defend together, they attack together and I think it’s going to be a massive game for us,” Mancini said.
