Argentina legend Diego Maradona has backed Carlos Tevez’s potential move to Italian champions AC Milan.
Tevez has been trying to engineer a way out of Manchester City and has been linked with a January loan to the Serie A champions.
Maradona, who managed Tevez while head coach of Argentina, called the striker’s situation at the Premier League leaders ‘unfortunate’.
“I hope that it’s true (Tevez joining Milan) if it goes ahead,” Maradona said.
“I really hope that this transfer takes place. I wish Carlos Tevez all the best; he should be back playing football.”
“What has happened to him at Manchester City is unfortunate. If Milan do actually sign him they will be big winners – he is an amazing footballer, he was one of the best performers when he played with Manchester United and for Manchester City.”
“I hope that he can be back on the pitch and playing football for Milan.”
Maradona has made a good start to life as coach of United Arab Emirates outfit Al Wasl.
After six matches this season his side are third in the country’s Pro-League. They are aiming for their first league title since 2007.
