(GSM) – Argentina coach Diego Maradona will be offered a new four-year contract by the country’s football federation. AFA president Julio Grondona will meet with the 49-year-old legend next week to discuss the details of a new deal.
If Maradona stays, he will lead his country again at the 2014 World Cup which will be staged in Brazil. The AFA executive committee have met to discuss Maradona’s future and insisted after the meeting that the Argentina legend remains the right man to coach the national team.
Maradona was disappointed following Argentina’s 4-0 defeat at the hands of Germany as the Argentinians were eliminated from the World Cup in the quarter-finals. When asked about his future, Maradona was indecisive.
“I may leave tomorrow,” was Maradona’s immediate response to the defeat. “We will see what happens. I haven’t thought about leaving. I have to check that with my family and the players and there are things I have to consider.”
But with the committee now wanting him to stay, Maradona is likely to remain in his position for the next World Cup.
