Marco van Basten returned to San Siro last night to perform at a charity match between former Milan and Real Madrid stars (2-0 win for the home side).
There he said that he was surprised by Milan-owner Silvio Berlusconi’s transfer policy.
`I remember that Milan ruled the market twenty years ago. The truth is that if you don’t buy, improving the squad becomes difficult,` Van Basten said to Corriere dello Sport.
Although Milan struggled on the transfer market this season, they did manage to sign Dutch striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar from Real Madrid.
`San Marco` thinks that his fellow Dutchman will be successful at the San Siro-stadium.
`He has always scored and I believe, and hope, he will do plenty here too. After all, he is exactly what Milan need,` Van Basten added.
The Dutch legend had a bad start of his club coach-career.
In May, he resigned his post as Ajax coach but still many observers think he is destined to lead the Italian side sometime in the future.
Confronted with this statement Van Basten smiled and said: `I don`t know how to answer that at the moment.`
`You never know what will happen in the future. But, if Leonardo (current Milan-coach) will not win, it won`t be his fault.’
