Atletico Madrid made their move towards signing Marcos Alonso from Chelsea a few months ago, and now, the player has given his consent to the move, according to Marca.
Alonso didn’t play as much as he’d have liked during the 2018/19 season, and his frustration apparently culminated with him sitting the Blues’ Europa League final triumph out on the bench.
Atletico are keen to solve their problem on the left defensive flank with Lucas Hernandez gone and Felipe Luis expected to leave soon as well, and they see the 28-year-old as a good fit. Further more, Alsonso would apparently be glad to move back to Madrid and would only join Atletico, despite starting out at Real.
However, there is still the task of agreeing a fee with Chelsea, as well as finding a solution for his high wages. The Londoners might turn out to be a very hard nut to crack, especially with a two-window transfer ban looming over Stamford Bridge, which would prevent them from signing a replacement.
