Werder Bremen have opted against extending the contract of forward Marcus Rosenberg, the German club have announced on their official website.
The Swedish forward has a contract until the end of the season at Weserstadion, and it has now been revealed that the club will not be offering him a contract extension.
“The decision was not easy. Mark is a reliable player who has done well in accordance with his qualities,” Werder sporting director Klaus Alofs was quoted as saying on club’s official website.
“The bottom line is he has scored some goals, but not enough. We now want some new players up front.”
The 29-year-old has scored respectable 10 goals in 32 Bundesliga games this term, but it appears that was not enough for him to earn a new deal.
The player’s representative Martin Dahlin has confirmed that his client is now looking for a new challenge.
“It was a wonderful time for Markus, but unfortunately it is now ending,” Dahlin told Bild.
“He will look for a new challenge and he has offers from within the Bundesliga and from abroad.”
Rosenberg arrived to Werder in a €3 million deal from Ajax in January 2006 and has since scored 40 goals in 122 Bundesliga games.
The player spent last season on loan at Racing Santander, where he bagged 9 goals in 33 La Liga fixtures.
