Champions League winners Real Madrid have decided to exercise their option to re-sign Mariano Diaz from Lyon.
Diaz left Los Blancos last summer in an €8 million deal. Real Madrid still held ownership over 35% of the player’s rights and have now decided to activate the buy-back clause despite the fact Diaz reached an agreement with Sevilla.
Real Madrid had 48 hours to respond to Sevilla offer and ended up scrapping the deal with Cadena Cope claiming that Mariano Diaz will be back at Santiago Bernabeu to bolster the forward options in the new season.
Real Madrid lost Cristiano Ronaldo this summer and could use an alternative in attack to complement Karim Benzema.
The 25-year-old Diaz is coming off from a highly successful season in Ligue 1 which saw him score 21 goals and record 7 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions for Lyon.
