Empoli full-back Mario Rui will be joining a top Italian side at the end of the season, his official representative has suggested.
The Portuguese defender has been one of star performers in what has been a thoroughly impressive campaign for the Azzurri and he is heavily linked with a big club move in the summer transfer window.
Rui’s agent believes his client is ready to make the next step in his career and has also revealed that top clubs from Italy have enquired about the possibility of recruiting the 23-year-old footballer.
“We have received many offers for Mario Rui, including from the top five or six Italian clubs,” agent Mario Giuffredi told Radio Stereo 5.
“He is ready for a top club now. He proved that he has great quality and in Italy there are few who can out-perform him in his role. He will certainly not stay at Empoli.”
The highly rated footballer has been linked with Fiorentina and Everton, among other clubs, and it remains to be seen where he will end up.
Rui initially joined Parma from Benfica, and only moved to Empoli after impressing on loan spells with Gubbio and Specia. He has since made 52 league appearances for the Azzurri.
