AS Roma full-back Mario Rui could soon be moving to Stadio San Paolo, according to his official representative.
The 26-year-old signed for the Giallorossi last summer, but largely struggled since, making just five league appearances.
The good news is that his former Empoli coach Maurizio Sarri wants him at Napoli, and the player has already found an agreement with the Azzurri.
But, even though AS Roma rejected the first offer from their league rivals, the player’s agent hopes the transfer will be agreed soon.
“He chose Napoli five days ago,” Mario Giuffredi confirmed on Radio Crc.
“He accepted the Azzurri’s offer. Roma gave us the OK to stay, but then the dynamics of the transfer market changed everything and (Napoli sporting director Cristiano) Giuntoli was a hammer.
“The player was convinced by Giuntoli, he was struck by how much Sarri and the sporting director wanted him, as he was by Napoli’s offer.
“He wants to head to pre-season training as soon as possible, if there’s common sense on the part of everyone then we’ll get the deal over the line by next weekend.
“Mario Rui is already training, he wants to show he’s ready right away.”
The left-sided defender, who can also operate as a left midfielder, is held in high regard by Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri and chances are he will soon be moving to Stadio San Paolo.
