The Merseyside Derby on Saturday prompted a lot of discussions about tackles, injuries and punishments. Everton forward Richarlison was sent off for a reckless tackle on Liverpool’s Thiago Alcantara in the final minutes of the match, but the Toffees goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was let off the hook after his horror tackle tore Virgil van Dijk’s ACL and ruled the Liverpool defender out, probably for the rest of the season.
Former Aston Villa, Manchester United and Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Bosnich believes the offenders in these cases should be punished severely, possibly with bans lasting as long as injury absences of their injured opponents. He believes such harsh measures would make players think twice before lunging recklessly into their opponents.
"It is putting other players in danger…"
