Spanish midfielder Markel Susaeta has signed a new deal with Athletic Bilbao, the La Liga club have announced on their official website.
The 24-year-old has signed a new contract until June 2017 at San Mames, with his release clause increased to €35 million.
Star defender Fernando Amorebieta, who has less than a year left on his deal with los Leones, is also expected to sign a new long-term contract with the club.
Athletic Bilbao officials decided to act after Javi Martinez and Fernando Llorente expressed their desire to leave, even if the latter remained at San Mames after all.
Markel Susaeta is currently one of the key players in Marcelo Bielsa’s side and he has been with los Leones since 1997.
In five professional seasons at the club, the attacking midfielder has made 168 La Liga appearances, scoring 17 goals in the process.
