Red Star Belgrade midfielder Marko Grujic has added fuel to speculation linking him with a summer move to Anfield.
The 19-year-old has caught the eye of top European clubs with some scintillating performances this season, with Liverpool reportedly leading the chase.
And after the Serbian media had suggested that the Reds representatives had met with the player after watching him in action, Grujic has admitted he has been in contact with the Premier League club.
“Maybe something will happen, but let’s take our time, I am certainly staying until the end of the Champions League qualifying stages,” Grujic told Blic.
“The same goes for Liverpool. We have held talks, but I haven’t agreed to anything yet. I am still a Red Star player.”
Grujic has impressed to score 5 goals and produce as many assists in 19 competitive outings this season, and there is every chance he will be leaving in the summer.
Due to the serious financial problems, the club are forced to cash in on their star player, but they are adamant the midfielder will not be leaving before helping the side in the 2016/2017 Champions League qualifying stages.
Boasting a 19-point advantage at the top of the Serbian Superleague, Red Star can already start thinking about the Europe’s elite competition.
