(GSM) – Barcelona’s new sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has admitted that Rafael Márquez is set to the Catalan club.

The Mexican stalwart, who has been linked with New York RB, could link up with former Barca team-mate Thierry Henry, who linked up with the MLS club earlier this month.

“It just needed the final details tying up,” Zubizarreta, who was appointed to replace Txiki Begiristain, said at his presentation to the media.

Márquez would become the Red Bulls’ third ‘designated player’, whose wages are mostly outside of the salary cap, along with Henry and Colombian Juan Pablo Angel.

Marquez has been with Barca since 2003 when he arrived from Monaco.
