La Provence has learned that Marseille are likely to offload star striker Andre-Pierre Gignac during the January transfer window.
The highly rated attacker has another year left on his deal at Stade Velodrome, but he is no closer to signing a contract extension.
And even if the club officials are satisfied with his performances, they may have no choice but to offload him in January.
Marseille chairman Vincent Labrune is desperate to trim down the wage bill and Gignac is one of the highest earners at the club.
Summer signing Michy Matshuayi is expected to act as a quality replacement for the former Toulouse star, although OM would probably have to sign another centre forward if the 28-year-old leaves.
Gignac, who joined Marseille from Toulouse in the summer of 2010, has enjoyed a bright start to the new Ligue 1 campaign, scoring 3 goals in 4 appearances to help the club pick up 7 points so far.
