Marseille could return for Taarabt

French media outlet Le 10 Sport understands that Marseille could rekindle their interest in Benfica flop Adel Taarabt.

The Moroccan midfielder hasn’t made a single appearance for the Eagles since joining on a free transfer a year ago, and the club chairman Luis Filipe Vieira made it clear Taarabt would never play for the club again after the footballer had criticised the club in French media.

Marseille attempted to recruit the attacking midfielder on transfer deadline day, but the deal fell through as Romain Alessandrini failed to leave Stade Velodrome.

Nevertheless, OM could reignite their interest in the controversial footballer in the January transfer window, seeing as how the Benfica president is not interested in cancelling Taarabt’s contract.

The 27-year-old has clearly failed to realise his full potential after shining at QPR and AC Milan, but he has nobody else to blame for the downtrend in fortunes but himself.
