The French international Dimitri Payet has emerged as a shock target for Ligue 1 outfit Marseille, who are exploring a possibility to bring the West Ham star back to his homeland.
According to reports from the French media outlet L’Equipe, Payet’s former side are preparing an ambitious bid in the region between €30 and €40 million for the 29-year-old, who was already linked with a move away from the London-based club last year.
Payet refused to rule out a return to his old club saying that Marseille had “a new project” which seemed “interesting”, adding that “Marseille knew how attached he was to the club”.
West Ham are unwilling to let their star player go for less than €50 million, but the fact the Hammers are struggling for form in the Premier League could force them to lower the expectations in order to avoid upsetting the French international who is believed to be unhappy with the current situation at the club.
Dimitri Payet notched 17 Premier League appearances for West Ham this season bagging only two goals in the process.
