French giants Marseille are hot on the trail of Serie A star Alberto Aquilani, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
OM have lost quite a few important players this summer and there have been no high-profile signings as of yet at Stade Velodrome.
Coach Marcelo Bielsa and club officials aim to change that in the coming weeks, as the latest reports suggest they are closing in on Italy international Alberto Aquilani.
The 31-year-old is available on a free transfer with his contract at Fiorentina having expired, and it appears that the midfielder opted against moving to the MLS having been linked with Montreal Impact.
Alberto Aquilani came through the youth ranks at AS Roma and went on to make 102 league appearances for the Giallorossi, scoring 9 goals, before moving to Liverpool.
The midfielder largely struggled to prove his worth in England, but then did well to kick-start his career at Artemio Franchi, bagging 13 goals in 81 league matches.
