French giants Marseille have stepped up their interest in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Benjamin Stambouli, according to L’Equipe.
OM missed out on the talented footballer last summer as he opted to join Spurs, but the 24-year-old has largely struggled for playing time in North London.
Seeing as he started mere four Premier League fixtures last term, Stambouli could be offloaded this summer and it is believed Tottenham would settle for €5 million.
Marseille have now emerged as favourites for the player’s signature having submitted an official proposal for his services.
Having begun his youth career at Stade Velodrome, Stambouli is reportedly keen on rejoining his boyhood club, but his representatives would prefer another Premier League club for their client.
Marseille hope to recruit the former Montpellier star as a replacement for Gianelli Imbula, who is heavily linked with a summer exit, and they do stand a good chance of making Stambouli the first signing of the summer.
