BIRMINGHAM (SW) – Danish international defender Martin Laursen has said on the eve of their departure for Switzerland that he would be very happy to take over the role of captaining Aston Villa should Gareth Barry be lured away from the club.

Aston Villa leave for Switzerland today on a five day tour in preparation for their UEFA Intertoto Cup challenge.

He stated that if he were offered the role of captaincy it would be a special and proud moment for him as he felt that the club was on the verge of achieving something special on its way forward. He added that if the job were offered to someone else it would not worry him.
