Real Madrid youngster Martin Odegaard is set to join Ligue 1 outfit Rennes in the January transfer window, Ouest France can reveal.
The 17-year-old and his father were in Britany at the weekend as les Bretons defeated Saint Etienne, and latest reports suggest that the midfielder will be loaned to Rennes until the end of the season.
The loan deal had been agreed in the summer, but the move fell apart as FIFA does not allow under-age players to join foreign clubs on loan.
However, with Odegaard set to turn 18 in January, there will soon be no obstacles to the Norwegian signing for les Bretons.
Having failed to enter Zinedine Zidane’s first team plans, the Norway international desperately need to gain first team experience and Rennes coaching team clearly believe that Odegaard is ready for Ligue 1 football.
The talented footballer has made 11 league appearances for Real Madrid B, and scored 3 goals in the process.
