Serie A giants Napoli have reignited their interest in Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel, the Daily Mirror can reveal.
It is no secret that the Azzurri boss Rafael Benitez is a big fan of the Slovakian defender and he did attempt to lure him to Stadio San Paolo in the past.
And even if the Spaniard is not certain to stay in charge of Napoli beyond the current season, the Serie A side appear ready to make their interest in the experienced defender concrete.
Namely, Skrtel has just over a year left on his current deal at Anfield and he is unlikely to be offered a contract extension before the end of the season.
This is something that Napoli will be looking to exploit and attempt to recruit the 30-year-old on a cut-price deal in the summer transfer window.
With their top 3 bid in Italian Serie A effectively over, the only way to qualify for the Champions League is by winning the Europa League title, and the Azzurri are 9/2 to go all the way.
