Wigan manager Roberto Martinez is eager to strenghten his squad in the January transfer window to help stave off the threat of relegation.
Wigan have already registered an interest in Manchester United’s Federico Macheda yet the 38-year-old wants to strengthen his side across the board.
However, if Martinez cannot get the deals that are best for the club he is more than happy to put faith in his side’s youth team to make the step up.
“We’ve got a very good idea of what’s needed and we could do with a couple of new players in certain positions. We’ll work hard for that,” he told SkySports.
“But if it doesn’t happen because we cannot get the players that we want, I’m quite happy to use the youth and the development squad that we’ve got at the club and make sure we have a very strong second half of the season.”
Martinez’s side are currently 18th in the Premier League and have only registered three wins this season.
