Young goalkeeper Damian Martinez has signalled his readiness to step up his game and become an important player for Arsenal.
The 20-year-old was given his debut for Arsenal in their 6-1 victory over Coventry in the League Cup, and went on to speak about his ambition to make an impact at the London club.
When asked by Ole about his chances of breaking into the first team on a regular basis, he responded: “I am working for that. They played me and I responded well, so they know they can rely on me.
“Arsene (Wenger) is very professional, and is very helpful. He treats the best player and the 17-year-old lad the same way.
“And he has the same demands. And if he has to play the kid that is better than the veteran, he will.”
The Argentina under-20 international has been brought up the pecking order at Arsenal after both Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski picked up injuries.
Martinez also spoke about his ambitions to break into the full international setup in the future.
“I know that being in the Premier League, one day (Alejandro) Sabella is going to look at me.”
