Greek giants Olympiakos are considering a bid for Newcastle midfielder Sylvain Marveaux, according to L’Equipe.
The Greeks have expressed a desire to sign the Frenchman on a season-long loan with an option to buy, but it remains to be seen whether the player and his employers will be interested.
Olympiakos have been pretty active in the summer transfer window, signing the likes of Vladimir Weiss, Alejandro Dominguez and Leandro Salino, among others, and they are hoping to lure Marveaux to Stadio Georgios Karaiskaki as well.
The 27-year-old’s career at Newcastle has been plagued with injuries, and he never quite managed to establish himself as a first team regular at St James’ Park.
Marveaux made just 29 Premier League appearances for the Magpies since joining from Rennes two years ago and he could decide to leave in search of first team football.
With the player’s contract not due to expire until June 2016, it is unlikely he will be sold on the cheap.
