(GSM) – Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano’s representative has revealed that his client would love to play for Internazionale. Former Reds boss Rafael Benítez has made Mascherano one of his top transfer targets after replacing Jose Mourinho at the San Siro.

Javier Mascherano, 26, has spent the past three years at Liverpool but contract negotiations have currently been put on hold. But his agent Walter Tamer says Mascherano would love to be reunited with Benitez.

Speaking to Il Corriere dello Sport, Tamer said: “Mascherano hasn’t spoken with Roy Hodgson or with Liverpool.

“He is taking a break after the World Cup, but it’s clear that he likes being wanted by a big club. Last year, European champions Barcelona wanted him. This year the latest Champions League winners Inter want him. I believe that it’s a record…

“For him, Inter’s interest has a magic flavour. Think about it, the strongest team in the world is after him where there are various compatriots who he has got to know playing for Argentina, and they are coached by a manager to whom he is tied by personal affection.

“Inter’s prestige is noted by everybody. For him it’s a dream. If it were to depend on Mascherano the deal would be very easy, but he has a contract with Liverpool and so first the two clubs must reach an agreement, then we’ll enter the scene.

“We would judge a transfer to Inter with great serenity. Last year Benitez said no to big money offers from Barcelona but this is a different market. The price of Javier’s contract has not been communicated to me. I expect a call because I am the only one authorised to speak about his eventual transfer.”

Mascherano is under contract at Anfield until 2012.
