(GSM) – Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is unsure whether Internazionale target Javier Mascherano will be in the Reds’ squad at the start of the season. Mascherano has been linked with a possible reunion with former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez at the Italian champions.

According to the player’s agent, the Giuseppe Meazza club has already expressed an interest in signing the Argentina international. And Hodgson has confirmed that he is unsure of the midfielder’s future as he is yet to hear from the Argentinian.

“I have tried to contact Javier,” said the Liverpool boss. “I have left him voice messages and sent him texts but had no reply.

“To be fair to him, that is not unusual because he’s had a tough World Cup and I believe he’s gone back to Argentina.

“It’s not always easy to get in touch with people,” he added. “I have tried to reach him to make clear I am happy to talk with him at his convenience.”

Mascherano had been linked with a switch to Barcelona last summer but remained loyal to the Anfield club. He has been at Liverpool since 2007 following a short stint at West Ham United.
