Mason Holgate appears to be in much demand these days. As respected journalist David Ornstein claims in his weekly column for The Athletic, Bournemouth, Newcastle and Sheffield United are all interested in the Everton defender.
At the age of 23, Holgate is an extremely versatile defender. He is fully capable of playing at either right-back or centre-back, which makes him ideally suited for a role in a three-man defensive line. Further more, he put in a very decent performance as a defensive midfielder in the 1-1 draw away to Manchester United on Sunday. Interim boss Duncan Ferguson praised the way he played, calling him ‘a real leader’.
Ornstein says the player is rated at mere £14 million despite his contract running until the summer of 2022, but Everton are extremely reluctant to part ways with him due to the fact that the only centre-backs available at the moment are Michael Keane and Yerry Mina. In fact, the Merseyside Blues would look to sign another defender if possible, not lose one.
