Massimo Donati signs for Palermo

Palermo have announced the signing of midfielder Massimo Donati from Bari on their official website.

The Renzo Barbera outfit revealed that the former Italy international had signed a contract until June 2014.

New boss Bortolo Mutti was the most responsible for bringing the player he had coached at Bari last season.

The 30-year-old thus became Palermo’s fourth signing in 2012, following Agon Mehmeti, Franco Vazquez and Emiliano Viviano.

Donati was considered one of the hottest prospects in Italian football when he came through the famous Atalanta youth school, but his career soon started taking the wrong turn.

After he failed to fulfill his potential at Milan, the midfielder spent next few years on loan at smaller Serie A sides before finally making a switch to Celtic in 2007.

Following the unsuccessful spell at Parkhead, Donati returned to Bari, where he spent the last two seasons.
