Chelsea attacker Juan Mata believes moving to the London club was an important step in his career.
The former Valencia man, who moved to Stamford Bridge for around 27 million euros this summer, scored in Spain’s 2-0 away victory against the Czech Republic on Friday.
Mata has made a solid start to his Chelsea career and is keen to continue his recent good form for club and country.
“This summer I took a major step in my career by signing for Chelsea and the truth is that everything is going well. I feel comfortable playing (for Chelsea),” he told Spanish daily sports newspaper Marca.
Mata linked-up with club team-mate, Fernando Torres in attack for the national side on Friday and the 23-year-old was full of support for the striker, who failed to score once again.
“Torres has done what the coach asked him to do and played well. The goals are a matter of runs and I’m sure he will make these soon. Torres is a great player and a great person,” he added.
Mata was also keen to compliment the playing surface at Prague’s Letna Stadion, claiming it suited Spain’s style of play.
“The pitch was excellent and it really complemented our game. If we move the ball around quickly, it is very difficult for the opponent,” he said.
The win maintained Spain’s 100 per cent record in the Euro 2012 qualifying competition, and Vicente del Bosque’s men will be looking to complete their campaign with victory against Scotland on Tuesday in Alicante.
