Chelsea attacker Juan Mata insists he is not letting his snub from the Spain national team affect his performances.
The 24-year-old scored twice and set up Daniel Sturridge as Chelsea overcame Tottenham 4-2 in the English Premier League on Saturday.
Mata was left out of Vicente del Bosque’s squad for the world and European champions’ October World Cup qualifiers but bounced back from that rejection with a superb showing at White Hart Lane.
The former Valencia man said he was focusing on his club duties rather than worrying about Spain.
“I don’t know (whether anyone was watching from Spain). I just try to improve with every Chelsea game I play,” Mata told reporters.
“I just wanted to do my best for my team and in this moment I am feeling really well.
“I had another chance for a goal but Fernando (Torres) was in a better position than me to score.
“But the most important thing for me was victory. Before the game we wanted to stay top of the league and we are still there.”
