According to reports from the French media outlet L’Equipe, Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic has held talks with AS Roma over a summer return to Serie A.
Having impressed for Inter in 2014-15 season, Kovacic joined Real Madrid but failed to impress in his first season with Los Blancos.
The 22-year-old has made only 11 starts in his first campaign at Santiago Bernabeu and it is reported that Mateo Kovacic is keen to leave Real Madrid having become disillusioned with his role at the club.
As Roma have stepped up their interest in signing the Croatian starlet and have already used their good relations between sporting director Walter Sabatini and player’s agent Mario Mamic to wrap up a deal and beat fierce competition waiting in line to sign Mateo Kovacic.
Croatian international is wanted by Liverpool, who are willing to match the player’s £23.7 million release clause which could ultimately prove to be a stumbling block for the Italian side.
