Internazionale Milano midfielder Mateo Kovacic would like to see the club sign Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko in the summer.
Inter are believed to be searching for a world-class front-man to lead their attack and Dzeko seems to fit the bill.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina international, 28, is expected to be transfer listed by the English Premier League heavyweights, who are blessed with a plethora of attacking options, including the likes of Álvaro Negredo, Sergio Agüero and Stevan Jovetić.
According to reports, the Nerazzurri are also monitoring Chelsea forward Fernando Torres and highly-rated Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata but Kovacic would prefer the club sign Dzeko.
“We need a top player to reduce the gap between the top teams and us,” Kovacic told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Who would I prefer between Edin Dzeko, Fernando Torres and Alvaro Morata? Dzeko.
“He is technically very strong, scores many goals and helps the team so much in defending.”
In addition, Kovacic has moved to play down reports suggesting a rift between him and manager Walter Mazzarri.
“I am fine here and now I am thinking only about the last four Serie A matches and about the World Cup,” added the 19-year-old.
“I am happy to have played the last few games and now I hope to keep my place.
“With Walter Mazzarri, I have never had any problems. I worked hard in training, waiting for my chance.”
Kovacic, currently valued at around €15 million, has started two consecutive Serie A matches — against Sampdoria and Parma respectively — for the first time since last October.
The reported Arsenal and Manchester United target is contracted to the San Siro until 30 June 2017.
Meanwhile, Inter president Erick Thohir has dismissed reports linking the club with a summer move for Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata.
Morata, 21, has scored six goals in 18 La Liga appearances, albeit just one start, for the UEFA Champions League semi-finalists this season but seems increasingly likely to leave the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu when the transfer window re-opens in the summer.
Recent speculation has suggested Thohir was in Madrid to discuss a move for Morata and the futures of Mauro Icardi and Mateo Kovacic but the Nerazzurri supremo has denied such reports.
“I talked to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez,” said Thohir.
“But there was no discussion about the transfer market. We didn’t talk about Morata.
“Icardi? He is an asset of Inter and he will stay with us, and so will Mateo Kovacic.”
