Valencia defender Jeremy Mathieu admits he is flattered by the reported interest from La Liga giants Barcelona.
The Catalans are searching for defensive reinforcements, and after failing to lure Mats Hummels and Thiago Silva to Camp Nou, they could turn to more realistic targets.
According to El Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona officials are seriously considering a bid for Valencia defender Jeremy Mathieu.
The Frenchman, who has impressed in the heart of defence in the second part of the season despite being essentially a left-sided defender, admits he is tempted by the prospect of joining Barca.
“To sign for Barca at almost 30 years would be the opportunity of a lifetime,” Mathieu told RAC1.
“I do not know if it’s true, I remain calm. If they are interested, we’ll see what happens. I cannot say no.”
Jeremy Matheiu has largely impressed since joining Valencia from Toulouse, clocking up 94 La Liga appearances and scoring 3 goals in the process.
The 29-year-old has been used as a left-back, centre-back and left winger at Mestalla, and this versatility is one of the reasons why he is held in high regard by top European clubs.
