Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matias Fernandez has completed a move to Fiorentina, the Portuguese club have revealed.
The Lions confirmed the agreement with the Italian club in a brief statement to Portugal’s Securities and Exchange Commission.
The cost of the transfer was not disclosed, but Portuguese media believe the Italian side paid around €4.5 million for the highly rated midfielder.
The 26-year-old arrives to Artemio Franchi after spending last three seasons at Joao Alvalade, where he scored 12 goals in 69 league games for the Lions.
The Chilean international began his career at Colo Colo and enjoyed a lot of success there before making an €8.7 million move to Villarreal in October 2006.
Fernandez is Fiorentina’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window, following in the footsteps of Facundo Roncaglia, Ahmed Hegazy, Mattia Cassani, Mounir El Hamdaoui, Cristiano Lupatelli and Juan Cuadrado.
