The agent of Benfica star Nemanja Matic has rubbished claims that his client has expressed desire to leave the club.
Having seen his stock rise a great deal over the last year or so, the Serbian was heavily linked with a summer move away from Estadio da Luz, with even boss Jorge Jesus admitting it would be difficult to keep hold of his prized asset.
However, with interested sides failing to make concrete moves, the 25-year-old remained at the club and it appears he has no desire to leave.
“Matic extended his contract at Benfica until June 2018 in January,so I do not understand all this talk about his departure,” agent Dejan Mitrovic told Radio Renascenca.
Asked whether his client was happy at the club, Mitrovic replied: “Why wouldn’t he be?”
Chelsea are believed to be leading the chase for the highly rated footballer, with Jose Mourinho set to watch the player in action in the 2014 World Cup qualifier between Serbia and Croatia.
Matic had spent one season at Stamford Bridge, having arrived from Kosice, but was never given a chance to impress and in turn joined the Eagles in the deal taking David Luiz in the opposite direction.
