Nemanja Matic is set to join AS Roma from Manchester United as a free agent this summer, according to multiple sources. It obviously means the former Serbia international will be working with Jose Mourinho again.
The defensive midfielder passed through many clubs on his long football journey so far, but the most interesting developments were arguably the ones when Chelsea sold him to Benfica for €5 million in 2011, only to bring him back at Jose Mourinho’s request in 2014 for five times that amount. Nonetheless, Matic made it worth while to Chelsea as he played a huge part in their Premier League triumph the following season. Mourinho was behind the idea for him to join Manchester United in 2017 as well, and with his contract now set to expire, he has already confirmed he would be leaving Old Trafford this summer.
It seems Mourinho, who has just won the Europa Conference League with AS Roma, wants to take advantage of the situation and grab hold of Matic for a third time.
“He [Matic] is someone I trust”, Mourinho said in an interview with Sky Sports about a month ago.
