Matri happy to be on Milan list

Cagliari striker Alessandro Matri is taking pleasure in the fact that Italian giants AC Milan are interesting in signing him.

Matri, 26, has scored six Serie A goals this season and has attracted attention from the likes of Milan, who could see the forward as a replacement for the injured Filippo Inzaghi.

Inzaghi will miss more than six months with a knee injury, meaning that Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri – who formerly coached Matri at Cagliari – is looking at bolstering his attacking options to support the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic up front.

“I can’t help but be pleased to have the big clubs like Milan paying attention to me,” Matri told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I have a good rapport with Massimiliano Allegri and we met up in Milan recently. I am concentrated on Cagliari and hope to give my contribution so we can break away from the foot of the table.”

Alberto Paloschi is another option that Allegri could use, with Milan co-owning the striker who plies his trade with Parma.

But Matri seems the favourite and could pick up a portion of the wages that Ronaldinho commands, with the Brazilian star expected to leave the club in January or accept a new contract on reduced terms.

Ronaldinho’s contract runs out in the European summer.
